I have organized the Military-Masculinity Complex around the four pillars of masculinity established by Deborah David and Richard Brannon: Adventurousness and Aggressiveness, Antifemininity, Being a "Bigwheel", and by being a Sturdy Oak. In each of these sections, I examine the methods and the meanings behind these documents that put forth such a strong illustration of each masculine dimension. For added temporal context, I have placed each of my sources along a timeline, alongside some important events that may impact the meaning and purpose of the objects. The American Manhood section provides deeper context and places my argument within established scholarship.
