  • Military Men as Sexually Superior

    • News stories, jokes, and cartoons that portray women as interested in military men for their status, sexuality, or money.

Misogynism

  • Misogynistic Jokes

    • Jokes and cartoons that objectify women or portray them as simple-minded or annoyances to men.

  • Description of Women's Appearance

    • News stories and jokes that provide an identity to women that is based upon their physical appearance. This does not include articles about beauty contest participants.

  • Beauty Contest Articles & Photos

    • News stories about the beauty contests held at the Depot and the photographs of contestants and the competitions.

Physical Identity

  • Veteran Identity

    • News stories that identify men based primarily on their wartime experience. Articles that profile several different veterans were only counted as one occurrence.

  • Past & Present Sports Achievements

    • News stories that identify men based upon prior athletic achievements or current status as an athlete on a Depot team. Articles that profile several different athletes were only counted as one occurrence.

  • Line Between Military & Civilians

    • Articles that assert a difference between military men and civilians, including insults directed at 4-F deferments.

  • League & Intramural Sports Articles & Photos

    • Articles and photos about sports competitions at the Depot. These are meant to illustrate the amount of time and attention dedicated to concurrent sporting events and the role they played in the community.
