Analysis:

This is one rare joke that gives women agency in their sexuality. It implies that the wife is cheating on her husband with another man. In an interesting editorial decision, it doesn't specify the husband's status as military or non-military, but it does specify that the man calling is a sailor. There's an underlying implication here that the woman is drawn to the military status of the male caller.
