Ex-Trackster, Lt.(jg) Wheatley, Oversees Phone Connections, Radio, Telegrams, Mail
Although batting out teletype keys is his usual post, Lt. (jg) R.W. Wheatley, communications officer, has charge of all radio, telephone and pestal activities on the Depot, in addition to telegraph facilities
On the Depot since 18 February 1943, Lt.(jg) Wheatley is a graduate of “Cactus Tech,” the Tucson, Ariz., indoctrination school. He has been on active duty with the Naval reserve since 15 December 1942.
A graduate of Occidental College, Los Angeles, with the class of 1936, Lt. (jg) Wheatley was hot shot with the discus and javelin in college and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Beta Kappa.
After college graduation, he became outside plant engineer for the Southern California Telephone Company, spending three years each in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Mrs. Wheatley, the 15-month-old Junior, and brand new Donald Woodin Wheatley live In Hastings.

This article shows the importance that was placed on athletic performance. Although there are many interesting and relevant details about his life, for the title, they labled him an "ex-trackster," as opposed to his status as a new father or his experience and education in his field.
